Joaquim José Cortiço (1931-2013) was the founder of Cortiço & Netos. He came from Alentejo to Lisbon in the mid fifties to work as a grocer and wholesaler. Twenty years later he started the business which brought him a widespread reputation: the buying and selling of discontinued lines of industrial tiles.
This occupation allowed him to create an enormous collection of this type of material. We owe him the preservation of such an important heritage.
In 2012, Ricardo Cortiço portrayed his grandfather’s unusual trade, in a documentary short film he directed as a final project for his cinema degree.
